Reinforced cut-off wheels fact sheet
The technical detail behind the fibre-reinforced 350, 500 and 650 HV grades: construction, why reinforcement lowers breakage risk on hardened samples, and the surface finish it leaves.
This is the most substantial document in the range and the one that corrects the
web catalogue: it states hardness bands for the three reinforced grades that the product pages
give only loosely.
What reinforcement actually does
A fibre web is built into both faces of the wheel. The maker’s stated reasons are worth
separating, because only one of them is about strength. The web adds stiffness and resistance
to the internal stress that hardened samples release when cut — a sample under residual
tension can close on the wheel and pinch it, and that is the failure mode reinforcement is
there to prevent. The web’s texture also carries coolant into the contact zone, which is a
cooling benefit rather than a mechanical one.
The finish it leaves
The document reports that under its test conditions these grades leave a cut surface
equivalent to a P320 ground finish. That figure matters commercially: a cut that arrives at
P320 can skip the coarsest grinding step, so the saving shows up in grinding consumables and
in preparation time, not in the price of the wheel.
Selection guidance across all seven grades is on our
