Aerospace and MRO

Turbine hardware, coatings and case depth, under specifications that name the method as well as the result. The Gulf's MRO base makes this a larger category here than its share of world manufacturing suggests.

What this work prepares

Turbine hardware in nickel and cobalt superalloys

Gamma-prime, carbides and grain structure in blades, vanes and discs. Tough rather than hard, and it holds the deformed layer a careless sequence leaves.

Thermal barrier and diffusion coatings

Coating thickness, porosity and the condition of the bond coat. Measured on the as-polished section, so pull-out and smearing both produce a wrong number that looks right.

Case depth and surface treatment

Nitrided, carburised and shot-peened surfaces, where the measurement runs from an edge that must not round.

Weld and braze joints in repair

Repair welds on parts that have already been in service, where the base material is not in its original condition.
