You have a part number from another manufacturer

Send the number you already have. We source the original where we can, or identify an equivalent from the manufacturer’s own documents — and the quotation always says which of the two it is.

What to send

Whatever you already hold: a part number from a previous order, a line from a purchase
requisition, a photograph of the box, or the entry in your laboratory’s consumables list. Numbers
from Struers, Buehler, QATM and
Metkon are the ones we see most often, and any manufacturer’s number is worth
sending.

What happens to it

  1. We identify the item — what it physically is, not just what it is
called. A 200 mm self-adhesive napped polishing cloth is that item whoever sells it.
  2. We try to source the original first. If your method was validated on a
particular consumable, changing it is a change to a validated method, and that is your decision
    rather than ours.
  3. If we quote an alternative, we say so. The quotation names the
manufacturer and article number of what we are actually offering, alongside the number you
sent. You are never left to discover a substitution on delivery.

Why there is no cross-reference table on this page

Because we do not have one we can stand behind, and a table is exactly the format that hides
that.

A published cross-reference asserts that two products are interchangeable. That is a strong
claim: it covers the abrasive, the backing, the binder, the size, the hardness range and the
behaviour on your material. Manufacturers do not generally publish equivalence tables for each
other’s products, so anyone printing one has either derived it from specifications — which
is an opinion — or copied it from somebody else who did.

This site’s whole standard is that a specification figure carries the document and the page it
came from. A cross-reference table cannot meet that standard, so it is not here. Where a
manufacturer does publish a comparison, we will quote it and name the document.

What we will do instead is match your item against what we can source, item by item, and tell
you what differs. That is slower than a table and it is the only version of it that is true.

What we can match against

Everything in the consumables catalogue, which is what we publish
today, and a wider set we can source and have not catalogued. If the item is not in the
catalogue, that is not an answer of no.

Send the number

Request a quotation, or WhatsApp a photograph of the label
to +971 50 126 6233. A photograph of the box is usually faster than typing the
number, and it carries the batch and size information that the number alone does not.
